Što se tiče pokretanja distribucije pod VM, ja sa VirtualBox-om nikada nisam imao problema. Posle instalacije samog sistema instaliraju se i GuestAddons koji pružaju podršku za grafiku, miša i sadrže još neke dodatke. Nisam siguran da li nešto slično postoji pod VirtualPC aplikacijom, ali ako ne, tu je VBox . Naravno, slažem se sa kolegom @igorpan da je bolje da Ubuntu probaš kao Live CD .

Ja sam uvek sa Ubuntuom imao ovakvih problema, da mi prikaz na 800 x 600, mislim da sam izvukao najviše 1152 x 768 ili tako nešto i to u VMWare.
Jedino sa Debianom, Knoppixom i Red Hat-om sam imao pun ekran.

Linux Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 1

Kejt Stjuart je najavio dostupnost prvog Alfa izdanja Ubuntu 11.10 kodnog imena "Oneiric Ocelot".
Pva Alfa nam dolazi sa Linuks jezgrom 2.6.39.

Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 2

Ubuntu 11.10 Alfa 2, kodnog imena "Oneiric Ocelot", je dostupan za preuzimanje i testiranje.
Od novina dolazi nam Linuks jezgro 3.0-rc5, GCC 4.6.1 kompajler, Firefox 5.0, Thunderbird 5.0, GNOME 3.0 a pojedini delovi su već na GNOME 3.1.2 Alfa.

Ubuntu 10.04.3 i Kubuntu 10.04.3 su dostupni za preuzimanje.
Kako je i najavljeno, treće izdanje LTS 10.04 je tu sa mnogim poboljšanjima.

Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 3

Ubuntu 11.10 Alfa3, kodnog imena "Oneiric Ocelot", je dostupan za preuzimanje i testiranje.
Od novina treba pomenuti Linuks jezgro 3.0.
Takođe treba pomenuti da je Lubuntu (Ubuntu + LXDE) sada postao zvaničan član Ubuntu porodice.

Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 2

Od novina tu je Linux jezgro 3.0.4.
GNOME grafičko okruženje je ažurirano na verziju 3.1.92 na svom putu ka verziji 3.2.

Novost je da se sada Gnome 3 glatko instalira pored Unityja i više ne smetaju jedan drugom. Takođe u izboru sesija postoji i Gnome Classic (a to je u stvari G3 fallback) koji je nešto između Gnome 3 i Gnome 2, s tim što po izgledu dosta podseća na Gnome 2. Unity je i dalje noncustomize, to što dobiješ po instaliranju, to ti je.

Mene interesuje da li je bilo pomaka u nalazenju resenja za Toshiba laptopove u vezi sa ACPI-jem?

Kod mene ne radi Applications ekstenzija, ostale rade. I Unity i Gnome 3 zahtevaju po mom mišljenju previše kliktanja i šetanja mišem, jer u osnovi, koncept rada je isti. Ipak, Gnome mi se čini komotniji za rad od Unityja.
