A lot of programs already exist for such purposes - from the tiny chord fingering calculators (that really don't calculate anything and cheat by looking up a database) to the big bloaty monster programs that can do anything, and, besides, cost a lot of money.

However, all such programs have severe disadvantages. There is non-serious stuff, like "programs" written on Visual Basic and JavaScript, that don't ever worth metioning. Little and popular "chord calculators" often look nice, and sometimes even calculate and don't just look up a fixed database of chords, but they still cost a little sum of money and are very limited in its abilities (basically, it's hard to find even a chord calculator that understands different tunings of 6-stringed guitar). And, even worser, there is no such programs for *nix OSes (at least I don't know any).

Big monster programs that claim to do everything needed by a guitarist also have several disadvantages. They cost more money (up to prices of large commercial musical studio software, such a Cakewalk sequencers, etc) and often are really limited in its capabilities too. They're mostly for Windows environment and thus, have a lot of restrictions and spirit of this system - starting of very closed source to the very limited customizations. Last, but not least - they are often "written by guitarists for guitarists" (a great commercial motto) that often means just poorly written code. Didn't wanted to give names, but check the Guitar Pro software on not so high-end computer or just under Wine in *nix - and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Some *nix software that do such things exists also. But it's often doing only one thing (and doing it poorly - most software I've found on this topic was written ages ago - somewhere in the beginning of 90's).

So, I (GreyCat) have decided to develop a full-sized guitarist environment, based on many existing concepts and also developing new, useful and powerful concepts.

Odlican i kompletan, ali jos uvek nestabilan alat. Poslednja stabilna verzija iz 2005te. Meni se povremeno rusio tokom koriscenja. Mozda cete vi biti bolje srece.

Meni se konstantno rusi.
Mislim da je do gp4 formata. Neku pesmu ucita lepo, na neku se zabudali.

Dok se ne ispegla to, moja preporuka je TuxGuitar. On ne puca

Steta... Obecava... Ali je izgleda jako nestabilan. Poslednja verzija je iz 2005te, tako da nisam bas neki optimista da ce uskoro to ispraviti. Pogledacu uskoro i Tux Guitar, pa cu napisati i nesto o njemu. Hvala na ideji.

KGuitar 0.5.1



Napokon je izasla nova verzija KGuitar editora tablatura za KDE. Zvanicno obavestenje o novoj verziji:

After a long period of silence, I'm pleased to announce KGuitar 0.5.1 - a major bugfix release that covers most of issues for the last few years

* Compatiblity fixes: added support for autoconf 2.61, automake 1.10, gcc 4.2. Removed last bits of qt2->qt3 transition deprecations. Internal structures refactoring.
* Added zoom level (Ctrl Minus, Ctrl Plus), introducing multiple bars per row, automatically tuning to available window width;
* Finally introduced new exception-based framework for converters load/save. Makes converters much more bullet-proof and easier to write and debug.
* Guitar Pro import undergone major rewrite. Now it properly loads all gp4 files I have. Guitar Pro v3 and v5 formats are coming next. Anyway, Guitar Pro loader is now much more helpful about what errors it gets and less crash-prone. It detects and helps debug problems it encounters.
* Lots of displaying, mouse and keyboard control, printing fixes and prettifying. Track pane now has a header and it's synchronized with track list. Melody editor now has trapezoid and shark fin inlays.
* New QMap-based API for song metainformation - stores not a fixed number of fields, but key=value pairs.
* Misc things: project transitioned to Subversion.

Napomena: Ukoliko zelite podrsku za midi (poput Guitar Proa), bice potrebno da instalirate TSE3 lib. Medjutim izgleda da ovaj lib nije moguce kompajlirati pod GCC4 bez modifikacija (poslednja verzija je iz 2005). S obzirom da me je mrzelo da se bakcem sa time, gornji screenshot prikazuje KGuitar bez podrske za midi. Druga opcija je downgrade GCC-a na 3.x verziju i kompajliranje sa njom.
