HAMILTON, Bermuda - Authorities in Bermuda warned residents to expect strong winds early Thursday as Tropical Storm Harvey — the eighth named storm of the season_ passed near the British island territory.

Authorities did not expect much damage beyond heavy thunderstorms and winds, said Ian Currie, a Bermuda Weather Service meteorologist.

As the storm neared the island early Thursday, Bermuda canceled a hurricane watch but maintained a tropical storm warning.
