Japanski grad Sendai je bio u utorak zahvacen jakim zemljotresom od 7.2 rihtera.Tokom spasavanja niko nije poginou Shocked Svaka im cast, ovo je bila jedna sreca u nesreci, Wink

nesto vise o ovome

No one died and only a few people were seriously injured in the magnitude 7.2 quake, which happened off the coast of northern Japan on Tuesday morning.

Sendai was the worst hit by the tremor, but, even there, life was back to normal on Wednesday morning.

Scientists are still warning, though, that there could be strong aftershocks in the coming days.

The casualties - most of them in Sendai city - were largely caused by the collapse of the ceiling of a swimming pool and several small landslides.

In the immediate aftermath of the tremor, highways were closed, flights postponed and high-speed train services suspended.

National broadcaster NHK reported that a total of 72 people had been hurt, seven of them seriously - although police later said only three serious injuries had been reported.

Japan endures approximately 20% of the world's earthquakes - and has developed sophisticated methods to detect them and lessen the damage.

Many high-rise buildings in Tokyo swayed with the force of the quake, but are specially designed to withstand such events.

The Meteorological Agency said it was able to send a warning to Sendai 14 seconds before the tremor struck, due to a trial system introduced last year.

But, even with this specialist knowledge and equipment, the Japanese know that they could still face a huge disaster.

Analysts warn that, had the earthquake happened on land rather than under the sea, it could have caused huge destruction.

A magnitude 7.3 tremor in 1995 killed 6,400 people in the port city of Kobe.

There have already been 12 moderate aftershocks.

"I'm sure there will be more [quakes]," Takako Tanaka, a 36-year-old office worker, told the Associated Press. "You can never really feel safe."

Japan's Earthquake Research Committee has concluded that Tuesday's quake was not the big one which experts have predicted will strike within 30 years.

''The earthquake this time was different from the one we have been simulating,'' a committee member told Kyodo news agency.

Limited damage

The quake's epicentre is thought to have been 20km (12.4 miles) below the ocean off Miyagi prefecture, striking at around 1146 (0246GMT) on Tuesday morning.

It shook buildings in Tokyo, some 300km (186 miles) away, and two small tsunamis followed, causing no significant damage.
